日本語で書こうと思っていたけど、来年までかかると悪いのでif anyone feels like putting a little bit of Japanese translation in the comments for those who don't know english otherwise 頑張って英語でね!

We were talking about the experience of yourself as separate from your ego, and how sometimes long periods of meditation or yoga practice can help speed up this process, can take you to a deeper place more quickly. But it is not essential.
Ashtanga yoga is for householders (people who work, have families、responsibilities) for people in society. To practice even a little every day is the most important. Even a few moments of breath awareness at work. Find your centre and rest there in the present moment. That is yoga, no? Perhaps the effects of a constant daily practice come slower, but last for longer, surely.

One of my favourite messages from the Bhagavad Gita is:
A yogi is one who fulfils his duties in society yet stays free inwardly.

The Bhagavad Gita talks a lot about our duty to society. In Japan this feeling is very strong, which is good, but one must do ones duty with a free, clean, peaceful heart. The Bhagavad Gita talks a lot about Karma Yoga, which is yoga through work. It also talks about the need to work not for the rewards (money) but for the service of other people. To contribute to society. This is yoga.

The Bhagavad Gita also talks about the proper reason for practising yoga is to help improve the state of the world.  The effort to purify and uplift our own life should be done altruistically for the benefit of uplifting and enriching the world.
